John Madden Football ’93 is a 1992 sports video game developed by Blue Sky Productions and Electronic Arts and published by EA Sports Network. Based on the sport of American football, the game puts the player in control of a football team in modes such as tournament play and sudden death.

Fight Club is a 3D combat adventure built on lots of one-on-one, hand-to-hand, no-holds-barred fighting matches. Players are led through a violent storyline based on David Fincher’s popular 1999 film. They can design and play as their own Fight Club characters, and choose from three authentically designed street fighting styles: brawler, grappler, or martial artist. Characters featured from the film include Jack and Tyler, Ricky, Bob, Lou, and even the unlucky/lucky convenience store clerk, “Raymond K. Hessel.” Combatants display the damage they’re dealt in real-time, through blood and bruises that appear on their bodies. Toward the end of a match, when an opponent is almost defeated, an icon appears onscreen to let players know that bones could be broken and a dramatic victory assured. But really, we’re not sure we’re supposed to be talking about this….

A 3D update of the 1980 coin-op classic, Defender has players guiding a star fighter from a behind-the-ship perspective in an attempt to thwart an alien invasion. Pilots must once again rescue potential abductees from alien vessels to earn points, which can be used for ship upgrades in the areas of engines, shields, and weapons. The battles take place in a campaign format, playable with a friend in cooperative mode, as pilots engage alien threats across planetary surfaces on Venus, Mars, and Earth, as well as in the far reaches of space.

Time is running out, in this PS2-exclusive action-adventure by Sony Europe’s Cambridge Studios. Based on the popular Fox television series, the game puts players in the ephemeral role of Jack Bauer, an on-and-off special agent with the U.S. government’s “Counter-Terrorist Unit” (“CTU”). As in the television show, Jack has a mere 24 hours to prevent a global disaster. The game takes place between the events of the second and third seasons of the show, and has Jack investigating the failed assassination attempt of President David Palmer. Keifer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) and Dennis Haysbert (David Palmer), lend their likenesses and voice-acting to the game, along with Elisha Cuthbert (Kim Bauer) and Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida).

Splinter Cell: Double Agent takes the stealth-based series in a new direction after three successful covert operations on multiple platforms. After learning his teenage daughter was killed in a car crash, a despondent Sam Fisher is unable to complete his duties for the NSA’s splinter cell, Third Echelon, and is reassigned as a NOC, a non-official cover agent who operates from within dangerous organizations. His mission is to infiltrate a domestic terrorist group called John Brown’s Army. For the first time in the series, Fisher cannot solely rely on his gadgets or the direct support of the NSA.
